Whittaker’s Chocolate

As the second biggest chocolate brand in New Zealand, Whitaker’s still hasn’t sold out; it remains firmly in the hands of the Whitaker family who have overseen the growth of this ‘bean to bar’ manufacturer since the firms inception in 1896, by James Henry Whitaker. It is by no surprise then that Whitaker’s has just recently been awarded ‘New Zealand’s most trusted brand’ for the second time running, as voted in the Annual Readers Digest survey. Their innovation doesn’t stop at producing tasty chocolate bars such as their signature ‘Peanut Slab’. They also produce delectable delights that range from ice cream and toffee milk chocolate, to chocolate pips made especially for cooking and much more.  Whitaker’s also has a knack for fusing together the taste sensations from other hugely popular New Zealand products and creating a chocolate equivalent, such as the recently released and ever so popular Whitaker’s L&P, which combines the ‘famous in NZ’ L&P soft drink flavour. Whitakers exports successfully to Australia and throughout Asia and it is not uncommon to see a Whitakers range feature on the shelving of supermarkets in the Philippines and Vietnam through to Malaysia, China and beyond. Only the best ingredients are sourced to create an end result which Whitaker’s has now become most trusted for. Using the coca beans from Ghana and Madagascar and also New Zealand’s milk powders and orange peels; Whitakers combines such ingredients to create a milk chocolate that contains 33% cocoa, with their dark chocolate containing 50% - 70% cocoa – impressive levels. Tastes and quality are not only of priority, meeting the requirements of both local and overseas chocolate lovers is just as important, that’s why Whitaker’s has Kosher and Halal accredited products in addition to most flavours being Gluten free.
