East Island is part of the Chatham Islands which are located 700 kilometres east of New Zealand. The two main islands within the group are Chatham Island and Pitt Island, and the principal smaller islands are South East Island, Mangere Island, Little Mangere, the Castle, the Sisters, the Forty Fours, Star Keys, and the Pyramid.
