This Hook Pendant is a genuine New Zealand Greenstone Carving (Pounamu).
Fish hook or 'Hei Matau' in Maori means 'Prosperity'. The first hooks used by Maori were made from bird bones. With the introduction of early diamond tools fish hooks were then able to be made from pounamu (Greenstone/Jade). They were not really used for actual fishing but more for ornaments and jewellery.
The carver of this high quality product is certified by Creative New Zealand to display the 'Toi Iho' mark. This authenticates the work as being a genuine New Zealand product carved by a Maori artist.
These New Zealand Greenstone Carvings are individually handcrafted therefore the colour and markings may vary slightly.
