Moonfish handcrafted from recycled copper.
Moonfish is a stunningly coloured fish. It has a silvery-grey upper body and fades to rose red and dotted white spots towards the belly.
Moonfish (Lampris guttatus) is a pelagic species that occurs in surface waters to depths of about 500m, typically well offshore. Moonfish occurs in tropical and temperate waters of the Pacific Ocean as well as all other major oceans of the world.
Little is known about the biology of Moonfish, and whether it is vulnerable to overfishing. Moonfish have a solitary existence, large size and weight (up to 2 m in length and 270 kg in weight), and are top predators with eclectic diets.
