Splashy make their products at their art, pottery and tile studio in Horotiu, New Zealand. Each Splashy product is unique because they are individually hand painted by a small team of dedicated artists. Splashy also uses a special paint made according to a secret recipe. This gives Splashy products their distinctively bright tone and colour.

How Splashy make their Cups & Saucers:

• Soft clay is poured into moulds.
• As the clay hardens it is lightly fettled by a damp sponge.
• When the clay has set enough to be handled it is considered ‘greenware’.
• This greenware is then blasted in a bisque kiln at 900 degrees Celsius for six to seven hours.
• After the blasting process it is ready to be hand painted.
• Splashy’s team of talented artists then expertly apply their colourful secret paints to the product.
• It is then placed into the bisque kiln again and blasted
• This is followed by a further blasting process in the glazing kiln at 1160 degrees Celsius.
• Finally the finished product is checked for any faults or cracks.
